~ WW Diving Goes Techy! ~

Big news here at the shop! If you've been in to visit lately you've seen all the commotion...we are rearranging, changing, and moving into the world of technical diving! WW Diving is proud to announce that it is now a

FULL SERVICE BLENDING STATION FOR NITROX, TRIMIX, AND ARGON FOR DRYSUITS!

Talk to the blending specialists on staff for all your technical gas needs!  Watch the calendar for new tech diving classes next year.

~ You know it's a bad day diving when ~

10 - The divemaster gets seasick

9 - The dive operator tells you your C-Card is over its limit

8 - You notice the receipt for your air fill is from 'A-1 Propane'

7 - Your computer starts flashing the number for DAN

6 - As you are preparing your entry, someone points at the water and says 'Wow, look at the size of that thing!'

5 - You look around and your buddy has disappeared; along with all of the fish

4 - The divemaster gives you a speargun to take along '...just in case'

3 - Your buddy offers you his regulator and asks 'Do you want a hit?'

2 - While hanging on the line for your safety stop, theboat passes you on the way down

1 - 'Does anyone here know CPR?'

If you have ever been on a dive trip with us, you'll know that we require you carry some type of dive insurance.  Most regular medical policies do not cover diving activities.  One option and a way to have piece of mind is to join DAN (Divers Alert Network).  W.W. Diving is proud to support this diving organization through the DAN Friend Scheme.    When you join you will notice a store number on the back of the DAN form; this allows DAN to track new members and also allows us to accrue points that go towards safety equipment for the store.

DIVING IS A SPORT FOR ALL

We all know what an exhilarating sport scuba diving is. But do you remember back to when you first thought about trying it? Normal questions come to mind:

'Will I be able to breathe under water?¨

'Will I be able to equalize my ears?¨

'I'm not a very good swimmer, how will I keep up?¨

Now add into the equation a wheelchair. A whole different range of questions comes up. Probably the first would be:

'Will I be able to dive?¨

YES is the answer. The HSA (Handicapped Scuba Association) is the worldˇ¦s leading authority for handicapped diving. It is a non-profit, independent dive training and certifying agency that promotes the physical and psychological benefits of the sport for people with many types of handicaps.

In June 2001 the HSA turned twenty and in 1986 their special Instructor Training Course was started. One of our instructors, Rich Almstedt, is a certified HSA diving instructor. W.W.DIVING is delighted to support the HSA.

WW Diving is now a REEF field Station!

That means weˇ¦ll be offering frequent Fish Identification courses. Even if you've never cracked a biology textbook, you can have fun learning simple memory tricks to help you identify the fish you dive with. Fill out fish surveys when you dive and you aid scientists in understanding reef ecology. Learn to access the REEF website (www.reef.org) to print a wish list of fish you can expect to see at your next divesite.

Every July, scientists, divers, and international tourist agencies sponsor the Great Annual Fish Count, similar to Audubonˇ¦s Christmas bird count. Fish Surveys turned in for July count towards prizes that include trips, gear, and Paul Humann's books. We have two Gulf trips and a Cozumel trip that qualify.

Only Air!

With so many younger folk joining the diving family we thought it important to stress the need to take great care when using compressed air.

Yes it is 'only air'.  But, and this is a very big but, it is air driven at a high velocity. Think of hurricanes and tornadoes. They are only air too; but the damage wrought by them can be deadly.

So too with compressed air.

It is known that a blast of air at 40 pounds per square inch can rupture an eardrum at a distance of four inches. If not treated with the respect it deserves compressed air can hurt you:

tanks need to be securely transported in your car

don't leave a tank standing alone and unattended

never point the business end of compressed air apparatus at anybody

have your tank visually inspected every year and hydroed every five years

It might only be air

but compressed air is no joke!

How's this for an incentive? For every person that you introduce, and who joins a class, we will give you a 15% discount on your next purchase.

The dive season will soon be here; why not bring your regulators and BCs in for their annual before the rush?  Along with the store changes we are making, we are also updating the tech. and compressor rooms, which will make our turn around time more efficient.

Lots of exciting things happening this year in your local dive store.  Come in and see for yourself.  In the meantime,
